Salvador Dolendo Reyes (b. November 28, 1901 - d. November 18, 1967) migrated to the U.S. in the early 1920s from Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, Philippines. Reyes' cousin Felipe Betita (b. 1908 - d.1995) migrated to the United States in 1928 from the same hometown as Reyes in the Philippines. He started working in Guadalupe, California, at the M.W. Watson farm along with Reyes. They moved to Arroyo Grande, California, to work, where Reyes started sharecropping at Steele Ranch. Then during the war, they were finally able to purchase land in Arroyo Grande, when the Japanese farmers were interned.
