Title

Anghilita Off to Work

Description

Anghilita "Nene" Vea worked for about ten years at Point Sal in Guadalupe, California. Here, she is pictured with her son Victor, who is dropping her off at work. Her job was to trim and bunch broccoli. When she came to the U.S. in the 1950s, she thought broccoli was a weed and threw trash in the crate with lettuce and broccoli. It was, however, her father's packed harvest, who was sharecropping in Santa Maria, California. She worked previously at John English plant in Santa Maria. She was a union member and retired with a pension.
