Housewarming Party for Pete Guion

Title

Housewarming Party for Pete Guion

Description

Pete Guion served during the Second World War and was the first Filipino in Arroyo Grande to purchase a home in town, according to Aida Betita. The house was at 721 Cornwall Avenue. This home purchase was an important event because local Filipinos describe that they were not allowed to purchase homes, perhaps because of restrictions placed on deeds. According to Juliet and Aida Betita, Pete worked for Gabe de Leon on the farm. For a brief period, he managed a small grocery store in Pismo Beach. Evelyn Betita is seated on the left, half hidden by the soda bottle. Original photograph from Mary Reyes's collection.
