Title

Group Portrait at the Christening Party for Lita and Luisa, Benito and Lilia Betita's Twins

Description

Celebrating the christening of Benito and Lilia's twin daughters, Lilia or "Lita" and Luisa. The daughters were born on November 25, 1947. As Aida Betita explains, Benito "Benny" Betita was one of the first of the Reyes-Betita cousins to return to the Philippines after the Second World War to find a wife. Benny's first wife was Caucasian. They were divorced and had no children together. Lilia was his second wife and came to the United States in 1947. Felipe Betita went back to the Philippines after Benny, then the rest of the cousins followed, being told "it's easy there" to find a wife. Local Filipino community events often took place either at Routzen Park or at the American Legion Hall in Arroyo Grande, California.
